1 Something I found out today on Tue Nov 03, 2015 6:47 pm

This my second xk380 (first one got shot down at pig roast) so I have 2 Transmitters .My friends bought me the new one .  I took my first TX this morning and wanted to see if the quad would bind and respond without doing anything to either one . Well the TX bound and I was able to control and fly it . Makes me wonder if all the XK's  are on the same frequency .

The reason I did this was because my new quad does not like to RTH . When I tried it the XK climbed and started heading away from it's starting point by about 20 feet (7m) before I turned RTH off and brought it back to where is should have landed . In my area I always get 12 satellite's . That's why I didn't do the GPS shielding mod (yet). While it hovers it constantly tries to gain altitude (very slowly) and it likes to move around on it's own . All the TX settings are good and I recalibrate (GPS)before every flight . My first quad was not like this . It was perfect as far as RTH and hovering . It was fun to fly .  If my first XK was like this I wouldn't have bought a second one .
I do have some pieces and parts from my first XK . The main board and GPS unit are still good . It lost 1 arm , 2 legs , 3 props and a motor . It was only 10 feet (3m) up when it got shot down so I think most of the electronics are good. This winter I might change some parts around and see what happens .

The moral to the story is :
1.  Don't take your quad to a pig roast
2.  Don't fly 2 XK's together
3.  Not all XK parts are equal in quality

Hi lance the quad should be able to bind to both and more which ever transmitter is on first it will bind to its how they work in old days lol rc had a transmitting and receiving crystal that had to be on same frequency and rc fields would have a peg board so no one would use the same frequency its still possible to have 1 transmitter switched on then plug in batteries to 2 or more quads and they will bind to the same transmitter at least I've seen it done on other makes of quad not advisable though
So as long as each person turns there transmitter and quad on one by one it should be fine

Does your new xk fly the same with both transmitters like you describe if so then shouldent be transmitter but you could check it in the flight controller values should be 0 0 50 0
It's also been reported that some were sent out with GPS upside down so many a issue so worth looking at before doing shield mod I found out after
GPS mod worth doing in my opinion pretty much double the satellites on mine and more satellite's more it should stay in one spot and a quite a few a saying before the mod there's was wandering around as well and after it stays still

I opened my XK up this afternoon and took a look at the GPS module and it was installed correctly ,but I took it out and put my 'old' one in that I salvaged from my first XK . I still had the copper foil also so I added over the top of the original piece . Put it together and hooked it up to my PC and checked the TX settings and also to look at the GPS signal . The TX is set correctly but my Sat. shows only 8 Sat's now and not the usual 12 I get around here (inside and outside the house). Does the GPS module have to be facing a particular direction when mounting it back on other than correct side facing up ? All the board solder connections and plugs look good .

I took it outside and tried it out and it seems to hold position better now , go figure . It handled good with less drift . I did not try RTH yet ,  saving that for tomorrow when I have more time .

I seem to get more help here than the regular RC board . I appreciate it a lot .

It might make a difference the advice came from a member on Facebook who visit's the factory and its what they told him to get people to check for
I did see a post somewhere about using good strong fishing line for testing RTH and head lock to prevent fly away thought it was a joke at first but after thinking about it sounded a good idea lol
And thanks I am no expert by a long shot I mainly wanted somewhere to keep info files etc in one place as I am the sort that would lose my head if was not attached and thought sod it share and now it's at 50 member's I just share the link on YouTube forums etc and hope the experts come join lol
Anyway good luck with your flight just wish I had weather for it and watch out for the k index there been some high solor activity

I had some good flying time today , 2 battery's worth .
I tried out the RTH today and is worked perfectly . I hit the RTH switch and the XK stopped , hovered for a little bit and then returned to home without heading in a different direction . It landed well within 3 feet (1m) of it's takeoff position . I did notice that it rotated a little towards the landing zone as it was coming back . I tried it 2 times and the results was the same . I have been flying it with the Green light facing me since I have been having trouble . The GPS board I took out was a blue circuit board and the 1 I put in (from my first XK) was green . I don't think that makes a difference  . I think I had a bad GPS or plug (?) .

The other Problem was the XK always wanted to keep moving just slightly to the right and forward(green light towards me) , slowly gain  altitude just a little and was the last prop(right/white) to stop spinning(1-2 seconds) upon landing .
I am going to look into that over the next 2-3 days . I might have another motor and board setup for that side . I don't thing there is a way to adjust the motor to sync with the others ..

As standard it will turn and return backwards to home on RTL it can be changed in flight controller

I was looking at the remains of my first XK and I do have the correct motor and board to replace the one I believe is causing me the drift to right problem . The motor itself is marked CW but it does turn CCW.
The new one's motor is marked CW also . Looking at the motor to board wiring I see how they wire it to CCW rotation . This is just an observation I made . No problem for me .
Why would they put a CW motor on the XK that rotates CCW witch means the motor is turning in the direction that would unscrew the prop nut .I make sure that things remain tight when it comes to nuts and bolts but one never knows when vibration will loosen something ..

I also took the remains of my first XK which has no body shell anymore and hooked up the batter to it after turning on the TX . Other than the missing motor it still works . Since it seems OK I might just buy new body parts and motor and put it back together . I'm just not sure on which motor to buy since I need 1 to turn CCW and the XK's are using CW motors wired differently to the board .
I am also going to add an OFF/ON rocker switch to the rebuilt XK . I have extra battery plugs and 12ga. wire and a switch rated 16A @125V . It says on the switch 3/4 hp motor so it should be able to handle the battery amps . This would be a good way to see if a switch can work and hold up or not . The switch was $1.95 US at my local computer (Microcenter.com) store that sells pieces and parts for robotics and RC stuff (?) .
  The switch comes from www.nteinc.com  #54-060 .

Do all 4 prop nuts undo in direction of arrow on arm if so should be OK and could always fit self tightening props

No they don't . With Green light facing toward me the white right front  prop's nut tightens CW while the motor and prop itself spins CCW . Both the 'broken' and new XK's are like this.

I believe they should be the same as arrows on the arms if not contact seller as could result in props coming undone

From what I understand, they spin the way marked when viewing the chopper upside down. So why didn't they mark the prop direction arrows on the bottom side?
If using self-tightening props the nuts must spin on in the opposite direction or they might loosen in flight.

The nuts do tighten when motors spin. It does stop them coming off though for some reason they unscrew. I lost 1 at the beach and another came of recently that caused loss of prop and big crash.
